About the role:
The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for administering, tuning, general care, feeding, and leading projects related to our mysql/galera clusters. We value technical design skills, programming ability, and teamwork. Planning for database upgrades, preparing for growth trends, providing best practices advice, troubleshooting and debugging tough problems, and brainstorming new ideas are important to this role. You will be working primarily with Bash, Python, Ruby, or Go, but our general approach is to choose the best language for the job.
What you will do:
o Administering, tuning, and the general care and feeding of our mysql/galera clusters
o Solve difficult problems, and make use of metrics, monitoring, and testing to help you understand the inner workings of a system.
o Monitoring and reporting on performance metrics
o 24x7 production on-call support handling emergencies
o Educating Engineers regarding best practices for database use (queries, schema creation, index creation)
o Identify areas of improvement and make suggestions.
About you:
o Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or related field
o 8+ years of related experience, master’s degree and 6+ years of related experience, or equivalent related work experience.
o Minimum 7+ years of DBA or database management experience
o Minimum 3+ years of MYSQL experience on Linux/UNIX environment managing, supporting and designing large (at least 100GB+ sized) high-availability database systems
o Demonstrated experience in architecting a large-scale production database platforms
o Strong troubleshooting, communication and documentation skills
o Expertise with Cassandra systems metrics and systems optimization strategies
o Experience with schema design and data normalization
o Understanding of common replication strategies
o SQL query writing and optimization skills
o Experience with merging large sets of data for imports and exports
o Fluency with one of these: Python, Ruby, Go or Bash or other scripting language
