About the role:
The Director of Systems Engineering is a strategic leadership position responsible for overseeing and managing the infrastructure systems within the EasyPost engineering organization. This role involves leading senior engineering leaders, driving technical excellence, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions. This technology leader will be responsible for managing the core infrastructure of the EasyPost API Platform and the underlying ecosystem of products and services and all associated components for one of the largest and high-traffic platforms in the logistics domain. The Director of Systems Engineering also plays a crucial role in setting the technical direction of our infrastructure portfolio and contributing to the overall business strategy
What you will do:
o Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Systems engineering function, aligning it with the organization's goals and objectives. The Systems team is responsible for managing and maintaining the infrastructure on which our Platform is built.
o Ensure stability and reliability of the hardware, software, and cloud infrastructure for the wider engineering organization, internal stakeholders, and our customers and partners.
0 Lead and manage a team of software engineering leaders, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to foster their professional growth and development.
o Set the technical direction and roadmap for systems development, driving innovation, and leveraging emerging technologies to provide enablement to core engineering.
o Manage and prioritize software engineering projects, allocating resources, setting realistic timelines, and monitoring progress to meet project goals and objectives.
o Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, effectively communicating project status, managing expectations, and gathering feedback to ensure customer satisfaction.
o Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying areas for process optimization, automation, and efficiency gains within the software development life cycle.
o Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in systems engineering practices, and assess their applicability to the organization's needs.
o Lead and participate in talent acquisition and retention efforts, attracting top software engineering talent and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
o Work closely with security org to drive overall strategy and implementation of security processes, procedures, and governance through a combination of preventive and reactive controls and policies in a multi-infrastructure environment.
o Own the vendor relationships for all third-party solutions integrated into the organization's technology stack and ensure cost-effectiveness and security measures.
o Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
o Proven experience in systems engineering, including hands-on software development experience and previous leadership or senior management experience.
o Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a team.
o In-depth knowledge of infrastructure systems including cloud and on-prem solutions, and best practices.
o Proficiency in tools commonly used in systems development.
o Strong strategic thinking and business acumen, with the ability to align technical strategies with organizational goals and market trends.
o Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
