JOB OVERVIEW

FBN's Sustainability business is revolutionizing sustainable agriculture by putting farmers first. Our business assists farmers implementing practices that protect and enhance soil health for generations to come and also secures preferential market access and premiums for their grains. FBN Sustainability has signed partnerships with marque buying organizations across the food, ethanol, and animal feed industries who want to promote sustainable practices in farms across the US. The regenerative practices we promote include reducing tillage, planting cover crops, precision nitrogen application, and yield maximization through optimized genetics. Outcomes we strive to achieve are increased nitrogen efficiency, reduced carbon emissions, sequestered carbon, reduced soil runoff, enhanced water quality and water security, and improved long-term farm profitability.

We are looking for a Manager to join the rapidly growing Sustainability team as we roll out several groundbreaking programs. This role will collaborate with the Head of Sustainable Business, Head of Farmer Operations, Data Science, and Product to execute strategy and operations, including business development and program design for voluntary and regulatory ecosystem services markets. This role will also work closely with environmental NGOs and other science organizations to develop methodologies and vet models to produce high quality, defendable environmental outcomes. As regulatory markets continue to formalize this role will also interface with government bodies to adhere to new rule-making.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, scope, and bring to market agriculture supply chain conservation programs, balancing downstream demand with farm imperatives
  • Work with NGOs/government organizations to influence policy and protocol development
  • Master the requirements of international greenhouse gas protocols as well as corporate greenhouse gas goals to incorporate into conservation program development
  • Build and bring to market financial products in collaboration with FBN Finance, creating new mechanisms for farmers to get rewarded for conservation activities
  • Collaborate with FBN Data Science team to conduct ad-hoc and permanent analyses on regenerative agriculture data, including practices like tillage, cover cropping, soil organic carbon, livestock incorporation, and nutrient management.
  • Scope requirements for farmer and supply chain facing technology, then help manage its development with FBN Product
  • Deliver outcomes reporting that will be incorporated into Scope 3 accounting for supply chain partners
  • Discover insights and create content for white papers about conservation and agriculture

SKILLS

  • Demonstrated success managing business development opportunities
  • Highly developed communication and writing skills
  • Strong planning, prioritization and organizational skills in addition to being highly self motivated with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, agile, accountable environment
  • Knowledge in relevant fields, such as agronomy, regenerative agriculture, environmental modeling, finance, and life-cycle analysis
  • Comfort building new technology products and services from 0 to 1

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree, MBA a plus
  • 5+ years experience in fields like tech, agronomy, agri-business, conservation, or climate
  • Experience working at the intersection of business and the environment
  • Demonstrated success in unstructured environments

LOCATION

Preference is for this to be a hybrid remote / in person role reporting to our San Carlos, CA office 3 days a week, but remote candidates are also encouraged to apply.

The following represents FBN's reasonable estimate of the US national average base salary range for this role based on market data and placement of internal employees: $108,000-$125,000. This salary range may vary based on geography and the higher cost of labor in some metropolitan areas.
