The Role

The Corporate Counsel will support a varied array of the Company’s businesses while also interacting with and supporting various groups across the company. The role benefits from a mix of law firm and in-house work environments.

Contracting will include support for FBN’s product development, real estate and facilities teams, and marketing teams. The successful candidate will have broad exposure to FBN’s diverse business activities and educational and growth opportunities beyond the primary focus.

Specific Responsibilities Include

  • Providing legal review and negotiation of transactional matters and contracts in a wide range of legal areas, such as real estate, marketing, and product development operations
  • Assist with regulatory, compliance, licensing and policy issues related to crop inputs
  • Support data compensation negotiations and manage freedom to operate analysis
  • Knowledge of Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act
  • Providing legal advice to the company by providing internal business clients with an informed understanding of transactions, legal rights, obligations, and risks
  • Providing strategic legal and business advice to the company to facilitate long-term relationships with key partners
  • Collaborating with other legal groups and subject matter experts to analyze and assess legal risks and provide seamless cross-functional support to your internal business clients
  • Developing business best practices and procedures that will mitigate corporate risk
  • Resolving issues that arise in existing commercial relationships and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries
  • Identifying the need for and overseeing outside legal support for business transactions and projects

Qualifications:

  • J.D. Degree from top U.S. law school. Strong academic credentials.
  • Must be a member of good standing of the North Carolina bar, or eligible to register as in-house counsel.
  • 5-7+ years experience, preferably including at a law firm. In-house experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the agricultural industry, especially with respect to the marketing, sale and distribution of agricultural inputs is required.
  • Team attitude that no job is too big or too small. Thrives in an environment where you need to roll-up your sleeves and own outcomes.
  • Ability to strike a sensible and practical balance between legal risks and business needs.
  • Adept at working in a fast-paced, high activity environment.
  • Real estate (warehouse facility and office) experience preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with technology transaction license agreements preferred but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with various departments and levels within the organization (including senior management) and manage cross functional teams.
  • Excellent judgment, attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proactive and entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to adapt and contribute to a constantly evolving business.
  • Familiarity with contract management systems and demonstrated commitment to document management best practices.

The following represents FBN's reasonable estimate of the US national average base salary range for this role based on market data and placement of internal employees: $180,000-$200,000. This salary range may vary based on geography and the higher cost of labor in some metropolitan areas.
